Richard has degrees in history, literature and theology; he earned his D.Phil. from Magdalen College, Oxford, back in 1991, with a thesis on literary philosophy in the Renaissance, and has since taught there and at universities in England, Italy, America, Australia, India and Slovenia. For some years he worked in New York as a journalist and commentator, and latterly taught at schools in Slovenia. He has lived with his wife and two children in Budapest, where he has been teaching at Corvinus and Károli universities and at the British School.
