Pál was born into a mathematician family. After he got his MA degree at Eötvös Loránd University he made his PhD studies at the University of Cambridge. As a postdoctoral researcher, he worked in Cambridge first and then in Hungary. He was teaching in Mathematics pathway classes in high schools. At the moment he lectures at the Mathematics Division of Central European University. He researches mainly group theory, but also interested in algebra and number theory.
