Orsolya is an evolutionary biologist, with a passion for both research and education. She received her Master’s diploma from Eötvös Loránd University in 2007, with a specialisation in Evolutionary biology, Ecology and Systematics. Five years later she received her Ph.D from the same institution from Behavioural ecology and Evolutionary biology. Orsolya then moved to the United States for a Postdoctoral Scholarship at Dartmouth College, NH, where she started looking into the effects of climate change and physiology, which was followed by a second Postdoc at UFRN in Brazil. Upon returning back home, she turned her attention towards the evolutionary dynamics of emerging infectious diseases, which she is currently working on in collaboration with the University of Nebraska (USA) and Centre for Ecology Research (Hungary).
Throughout her academic career, Orsolya was highly interested in science communication and educational techniques, particularly in those related to STEM education. She taught classes in Systematics throughout my Ph.D., was elected vice-president of Dartmouth College Postdoctoral Association where she organised networking events, conferences and outreach programmes, and continued mentoring and teaching graduate and undergraduate students at UFRN. In Hungary, she worked as senior lecturer at Duna International College organising the curriculum of the Pre-Medical programme, and took an active role in science communication. She was a finalist in the 2018 FameLab competition at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, was invited as keynote speaker to a FameLab-Scindikátor event, to MemoBudapest, and the 2019 FameLab finals. Her aim is to share her passion for science and evolution and break down the barriers between scientific and non-scientific audience, claiming knowledge is for everyone.
