After graduating as a geographer, Márton began his PhD studies in the Geography–Meteorology Programme of the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in 2009. Between 2012 and 2016 he was a Junior Research Fellow in the Institute for Sociology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He defended his PhD dissertation in 2014 and started to work at the Department of Social and Economic Geography of ELTE, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer. In addition to that, since 2021 he is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional Studies of the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies. His main fields of research include urban studies, cultural geography, socialist and post-socialist urbanism, and critical social and spatial theory. He participated and still participates in several Hungarian and international research projects, and he is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Critical Geography Group (ICGG). Beyond his lecturing and research activity, he is also a qualified tour guide with a high level of commitment towards gaining more and more knowledge on the complexity of urban space.
