Martin is a research fellow at the Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He has a Ph.D. in Theoretical Linguistics from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. His fields of interest are phonology, morphology, the Romani language and the comparative study of generative and non-generative theoretical frameworks. He is not just an armchair linguist; he has done fieldwork among the Roma in the Hungarian countryside as part of his own project, as well as Romani language projects carried out by leading foreign universities in the field.
