In the fall of 2011, after several years as a data scientist for the largest labor union in the US, James took a sabbatical to attend a series of international architecture and design conferences. Upon returning in the summer of 2012, he opened a data consultancy and became a board director and executive secretary of the urban renewal nonprofit Depave. In 2014, James began graduate studies in Design at Harvard and Columbia Universities. James is currently a Fulbright Fellow researching international design-education labs at the Center for Media, Data and Society at Central European University. He will enter Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in the fall of 2016 as a student in the Master of Design Studies programme, where he will focus on digital fabrication and design education. James believes in the transformative power of teaching people to take apart and rebuild the world around them.
