This module is concerned with topics from Modern Physics: the theory of special relativity, quantum mechanics, atomic physics, nuclear physics and its applications. We will close with selected topics from particle physics. The module aims to present students with the concepts of modern physics, which are necessary to appreciate current debates in the field. As these topics are not in the scope of Oxbridge interview questions and admission tests, the module is not a direct preparation for such an application and cannot replace the knowledge in Mechanics and Electromagnetism. On the other hand, solving problems in this part of Physics can boost the interest of the interviewers. The module is also aimed to prepare students for the Szilárd Leó nuclear physics competition.
