From an overview of nationalism and exploring questions in connection with national identity, prejudices and stereotypes to theorizing and conceptualizing national extremism and populism this module looks into historical and modern examples with the aim to give a better understanding of conflicts that arise from differing ideas of national identity and disputed memories of political communities. It discusses the influence of traumas and violence in shaping political communities and in providing cohesion or generating division. Furthermore, it offers an introduction to studying politically engineered narratives and reveals the intentions behind national myths and the role of public remembrance.
