Module Leader:Andrea Hübner
Division:Arts and Humanities
During this course we will look at paintings to see how it is possible to get excess into them and to see how they can effect the viewer. To understand or rather to question who the viewer is and what cultural, social and personal factors make an impact on him/her it is important to have a look at some theories like iconography, iconology, hermeneutics, picture anthropology, etc.
The sessions are designed along the topic of the female body, motherhood and womanhood with associations to vanitas (vanity) and death.
The focus will not remain in old times: a’propos every work of art we’ll see the channels they come down to us today.
The classes are intended to be creative and interactive with theories to support our thinking.
