The Psychology and Linguistics tutorial aims to prepare students for Oxbridge interviews. The psychology section helps students walk through the main topics that might come up in such situations, including research methods, cognitive and social psychology. As linguistics is a subject that most students start from scratch at university, the linguistics section helps students explore the nature of human language, while describing and analyzing it from diverse aspects. The tutorial will also help students understand the basics of current scientific discourse by introducing them to hypothesis testing, the need for formal tools required for rigorous and detailed investigation, the notion of statistical significance, analyzing data presented and drawing conclusions from them. The tutorial will be conducted in an interactive, discussion-based teaching format allowing students to develop verbal reasoning and analytic thinking skills. The module is aimed at students interested in applying for courses in experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, the psychology of language, linguistics, modern languages.
