Linguistics is the systematic study of human language. It aims to clarify the nature of its subject matter, human language, and to describe the object, that is, the possible ways to study it systematically. Linguistics is a core element of several applied sciences (e.g. forensic linguistics, language education, second-language acquisition) and interdisciplinary fields (e.g. neurolinguistics, sociology of language, biolinguistics, linguistics anthropology, pragmatics). A more modern interdisciplinary application of linguistics is computational linguistics, which serves as a basis for natural language processing, machine translation and speech synthesis among others.
