During the module students get familiar with a new way of thinking that builds on a network of relationships between verbal and visual information. Comics (when talking about the medium, the plural form comics is used with the verb in the singular) is introduced as a relevant way of organizing knowledge. Students are encouraged to experiment with this non-linear way of both interpretation and expression throughout the module.
Each session focuses on the representation of a certain problem or topic in non-fiction comics about war and conflict. Close reading and critical thinking are required skills in attaining a deeper understanding of the representation of private and public space, social structures during conflict, or individual behaviour.
