This course provides an introduction to the methodology of art history. It will aim to show students various ways in which works of art can be analysed, from the vantage point of the historical context, the proper understanding of genres and stylistic or symbolic conventions to grasping some core concepts of aesthetics and art theory. The course will focus on the classical art of antiquity and aim to chart a line of inquiry to the early modern period. Students considering an application to art history are highly encouraged to take up this module
