This eight week course, drawing upon poetic works in the English tradition, from both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, explores the ways in which poets have used verse to depict and portray character, thus affording students an insightful overview of one aspect of English Literature. Furthermore, students will be taught a variety of approaches to assist them with both poetry appreciation and analysis and, in addition, how to construct and write a Literature essay. The course will be taught in a lively, interactive way whereby students will be encouraged to take part in group and class discussion as well as to present their own individual ideas and opinions.
