The Module offers the student an unconventional and in many respects novel insight into the thinking about, and analysis of, music. Instead of providing a more or less regular history of Western music by flipping through the repertoire, the Module approaches its subject from intriguing philosophical, psychological and analytical points of view. Acknowledging the variety of activities, genres and ways of thought music and music-making encompass, it touches questions related to the notion of music, musical time, musical value, the creative process in composition, improvisation and performance, talent, individuality, authenticity, and greatness and mediocrity in music, among others. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas and individual interests through wider reading and listening.
