Society covers the key concepts of major social thinkers of the 19th and 20th century whose insights and concepts had considerable impact in 20th century politics as well as in contemporary social science. They include the critique of capitalism of Karl Marx, the idea of liberalism by J.S. Mill, Max Weber’s account of the forms of legitimate power, Durkheim’s idea of the function of religion in social life and more. The module is useful for students interested in history, social science or politics.
