The IRSS module aims to familiarize Sophomore and Junior Year students with the basics of International Relations Theory and Security Studies. The module is based on the analysis of fundamental theoretical texts on the one hand, and historical case studies, on the other. The first two sessions engage participants in some of the classic aspects of the realism–liberalism debate, and the third and fourth introduce the English School and critical theory. The module will be of particular use to students interested in History, Politics, Sociology, International Relations or other social science disciplines. It will also develop students’ argumentative skills (both verbally and in writing), and provide them with a broad theoretical framework for making sense of international affairs.
