The purpose of this module is to introduce students to some of the main research questions and methodological challenges of the social sciences through focusing on theories that describe ways of constructing the social reality around us. We often say that our cultural taste, our emotions or even our own selves are social constructs – without being precise as to what exactly we mean. This course offers an insight into what social constructionist claims amount to with the help of tangible empirical case studies.

The module is recommended for any Lower House student interested in anthropology, sociology, social theory, philosophy, or economics.
