Freshman Social Science Module: Diplomacy

The purpose of the module is to provide a comprehensive and extremely fun introduction to the core concepts of international politics theory and decision making at an international level with the help of the classic board game: Diplomacy. Set in the period preceding the first World War, the game provides an opportunity for groups of students to form and break up secret alliances, make tactical and strategic decisions, and conquer Europe. Using the readings, the seminars will not only be an opportunity to make moves in the game, but also to reflect on those moves immediately with the help of the key theories and thinkers of the field. By completing this module, you will be introduced to the fundamental dynamics of international politics, decision making, leadership, strategic thinking, as well as coordination with your peers.
