In taking the theme of Artificial Intelligence this Numerical and Natural Sciences module aims to look at the exciting applications of AI today approached from the perspective of various disciplines to provide new insights and a deeper understanding of both the subject and the tools at the disposal of teams of specialists working today. All students will develop a concrete understanding of the differences between human and computer approaches to different “smart” problems. This will be achieved via examining problem-solving, learning, visual recognition, and motor-control both from the perspective of cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence, while also looking at state of the art solutions to these challenges. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their understanding independently on their own project using their tool of choice, whether that be through programming, mathematics, philosophy or psychological research.
