The module in primarily for Sophomore students interested in numerical sciences. It is aimed to give introduction and insights to various topics in mathematics. While some of the topics will be standard, there are some advanced topics that are normally not taught at high school. Another goal is to learn some of the prerequisites of the Junior and Senior numerical sciences modules. The plan is to involve students as much as possible at the thinking and problem solving process at the classes. The techniques and tricks are to be learned by solving interesting questions together. The module covers topics from algebra, geometry, analysis and probability. The core material includes the principle of induction, trigonometric functions and their usage, the concept of limit, expected value of random variables and introduction to a concept similar to the complex numbers. The extra topics may vary from module to module and are announced at the shopping lecture. The grading is based on the activity at classes as well as on the solution of homework questions. There are no special prerequisites, but students are assumed to have good logical skills, good understanding of the maths classes from high school and interest in mathematics.
