This course aims to equip students with the necessary basic background knowledge in Economics to discuss major current issues in the international economy. Through an introduction to Trade Theories, an overview of trade regimes and the discussion of economic integration, exchange rates and topics in international finance, the course will help students interested in Economics, International Relations and Land Economy to prepare for their application interview. Besides brief theoretical introductions, the emphasis will be put on in-class debates. Students will be required to read articles on major current issues, such as imbalances within the Eurozone, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and the perspectives of China among others. The assessment will be based on presentations, position papers in which students will express their opinion on current issues and on active in-class participation.
