Can machines think? Can they feel? Could they be conscious one day? The answer to these questions naturally depends on how we conceptualize intelligence, emotions, or consciousness. Take for instance, the following questions: ‘Can a computer do what a brain does?’, and ‘Is the human brain like a computer?’. How are they related? The module explores how the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and the theoretical questions surrounding AI research inform our understanding of human cognition. The individual sessions will be held by three different lecturers, representing three different fields, and thus three approaches to AI.
