This slightly unconventional Sophomore theatre module will aim to chart and survey different aspects of the performing arts while looking at various performing techniques through the observation of classical and contemporary plays, from Shakespeare to Brecht and touching on Commedia dell’Arte as the basis for improvisation in theatre as we know it. During this exploration, students will gain a stronger understanding of the performing arts from a practical and technical point of view and hopefully will learn to use them in their everyday lives and in stressful situations related to exams or presentations. The module is based on drama workshop methods and is particularly suitable for students interested in theatre film, performing arts and humanities, and will develop skills, as well as build confidence in all communication situations, using voice, body language, gestures and eye contact.
