Class and Ethnicity

The aim of the module is to introduce the students the basic concepts of, and infuential sociological approaches to class and ethnicity. The class will cover theoretical debates (e.g. functionalist theory of stratifcation and its critique) as well as policy implications (e.g. racial domination and social policy), and classical (e.g. Marx) as well as contemporary sociological approaches (e.g. Bourdieu). Students are also expected to develop their reading skills concerning diffcult theoretical texts. The course might be of special relevance for those interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in sociology, social anthropology, political science, public policy, social work, public health, and social psychology. The course has no academic pre-requirement.
