04/07/2013: “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”. This quotation inspired the Durham breakfast. Our royal brunch was held on the 29th of June, also to relax a bit after the final exams. Naturally, the main aim was preparing for uni, since by that time all the Laikas knew where they would be going. Hence we started to look for the alumni, the Facebook event was created and after a million emails with Ida, we were ready for the breakfast.
The big day came and slowly but surely everyone arrived at Milestone. Those who came first were the lucky ones who got to furnish the room chosen for the breakfast. Afterwards, some of us went to the kitchen, while the others were chatting with the alumni. A traditional English breakfast was served: eggs, baked beans, toast, sausages and, of course, bacon. Those who were in the kitchen had the opportunity to see something special, cooking with chopsticks, performed by David. After the multicultural preparations, everyone had a seat at the tables and we started to eat/drink and exchange stories.
Thanks to the alumni we could hear the kind of information you never find on the official websites. Everyone is thus now prepared for the adventures of Fresher’s week, knows which society would be the best to join, and can start to browse the most appropriate website for the online shopping, which is very addictive, as we now know. Finally, we cleaned up and say goodbye until the camp or October.
