18/04/2013: An interview with Gellért Weisz, recipient of a Milestone merit scholarship.
What is your proudest achievement?
In 2012, I gained a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics (for those who haven’t heard of it, this is the most prestigious international informatics competition for high school students).
How did you benefit from being part of Milestone?
I have gotten advice on where to apply and how to make my personal statement sound better. Milestone is preparing me for all the written and oral tests that I have to take (including language exams, subject exams, and interviews), with an emphasis on filling the gaps between the Hungarian and British curriculum.
What do you like most about Milestone?
What makes Milestone outstanding is the atmosphere. As people here have walked similar paths to that I wish to follow, they understand me exactly and help me in realising my goals. When you become part of Milestone, you feel like a VIP. That is, should any problem pop up, like the airport being closed one day before the Cambridge interview (true story), your problem will be given full priority and tackled in no time.
What course are you applying for and why do you want to study that subject?
I am applying to Computer Science with Mathematics. The reason for that is quite simple: I was always amazed by the logically challenging, creative processes through which one can build an applicable programme out of bare instructions.
What is your ambition after you graduate?
I am very interested both in doing research and working in industry. I am looking forward to university life and hope that the years I spend there will help me in my career plans by providing me with clear ideas and impulses.
(Shortly after this interview was conducted, Gellért received an offer to study Computer Science from Churchill College, Cambridge)
